So much hate in the world, but all we've got is love...

I am sure that if you are reading this, than you're well aware of the tragedies that have been popping up across America, since the devastating events that took place in Charlottesville, Virginia, during a white nationalist rally.  Is it not enough that our ancestors fought a Civil War to gain basic human rights in the 1860's?  I honestly believe that modern day white supremacists do not even know what they are rallying for.  Are you seriously that passionate about holding onto a statue of a confederate general?  Or is it that you are simply so desperate to hold onto our country's racist past that you will literally run over a crowd of individuals that are potentially not racist and who do not share the same disgusting ideologies as you do to gain some sense of evil accomplishment?

What I see here is a group of white individuals who have never felt love.  Individuals who maybe had an awful upbringing, who are now the result of the evil that they were exposed to as children and who know nothing else except to continue the legacy of their hateful, racist ancestors.  I am a firm believer that hate and racism are not inherent.  We are not born hating the color of someones skin or their beliefs or religion.  These are things that are taught to us by the individuals who raise us, by pop-culture, our community and our leaders.

Speaking of leaders,  I think that our current president, Donald J. Trump, does an excellent job at allowing this type of derogatory, racist and evil climate to rise to new outrageously high temperatures.  Trump purposely did not call out the KKK and white supremacists directly after their heinous acts because he is so desperate for a following.  The majority of the individuals marching in the white nationalist rally helped vote him into office.  Trump did not want to denounce them out of fear of losing likes.  A few days after the public scorned him for not directly scolding these racist individuals, he then tried to please his haters and continued to go back and forth on his opinion as to please all sides, which made him come off as vague and confusing.  Here's a tip; as a leader you do and say what is right, not what will get all sides to like you the most at any given time.  I understand that this is extremely hard for someone to understand when they have no real opinions of their own. However, being as though he is our president, it would be so nice to see him try.  Just try to be a decent human being for once.

Here's what has also been bothering me.  This hatred and racism has been occurring for years all over the world as well as in the states.  The KKK and white supremacy did not just pop up in 2017 to make their debut appearance.  They're ingrained in our history and we should be ashamed of only starting to pay attention to them now.  I do believe that it is better late than never, but I am so sick of hearing people complain on social media about the latest tragedy in the news and then not actually doing anything in their real day to day lives to stand up for people of a different race, sex, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation and so forth.  What are you doing in your daily lives to make a difference?  I am proud to see people standing up for what they believe in and for having peaceful protests.  However, once the energy and excitement from a protest ends and you all go home, how do you integrate what you preach into your daily life practices?

I am so grateful to be married to a beautiful, strong, African American man and to have inherited the most incredible family through marrying him.  We will soon be starting our own family and I will face some really difficult questions regarding their race not only from outsiders looking in, but from our children as well.  I want for my children to know that they are loved, empowered, wanted, beautiful, smart and necessary to this world.  The mixing of different cultures is on the rise and more and more biracial marriages and children will be popping up in the modern world.  This is beautiful to me as it is revolutionary and culminates all that our ancestors fought so passionately for in the previous wars.  In the future, I do see a more integrated, diverse and loving world, but in order for us to get there we need to continue to stand up for what is right and not stay silent.  We need to show our values in our everyday lives and we need to love even when all that we are surrounded by is hate.

Please enjoy some photographs from our wedding.
